With more than a decade of professional experience in veterinary medicine, Dena Lynn Lodato, DVM, MS, DACVS, CCRP, CHT-Vo has excelled in her role as a small animal surgeon and medical director at her own practice, Resurge Veterinary Surgical Specialists and Rehabilitation, LLC since 2021. In this capacity, she specializes in orthopedics, wound management, and neurosurgery, as well as sees new consultations for animals for a wide range of surgical diseases, checks in on patients, and provides hyperbaric oxygen treatment. The practice is the only referral hospital that offers acupuncture for animals and offers externships for veterinary students. Dedicated to her field, she is a longtime member of the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine, the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, and the American Veterinary Medical Association. She has accrued several accolades, grants, honors, and awards as a testament to her remarkable services, most notably the Humane Heart Award from the Humane Society of Louisiana. Dr. Lodato prepared for her professional journey by earning a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Rutgers University, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State University, completing an internship at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, and attaining a Master of Science from Mississippi State University. She first gained hands-on experience in the field as a small animal surgeon at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in 2013 and at the Animal Emergency and Referral Center, an affiliate of Mississippi State University, from 2013 to 2015. Upon receiving a diplomate from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2015, she lent her expertise to South Paws Veterinary Specialists, where she served as a small animal surgeon and medical director between 2015 and 2020 before ultimately starting her own practice. Over the course of her studies, Dr. Lodato has authored numerous articles and papers for such esteemed publications in her field as Compendium: Continuing Education For Veterinarians, the Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, Today’s Veterinary Practice, and Clinical Veterinary Advisor: Dogs and Cats. Also dedicated to civic endeavors, she has been involved in numerous local rescue groups, animal shelters, and humane societies. Priding herself on strong client communication and providing the utmost care and compassion to pets and pet owners, Dr. Lodato strives to expand her veterinary business in the future.
